In a dispute over snatching money, criminals shot businessman Saurabh Sabu in broad daylight on the main road of the State Capital just some days ago. Taking action under the instructions of Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishore Kaushal, the police team arrested three criminals involved in the incident.

The arrested criminals include Chandan Das, Aman Kumar and Abdul Nabi Syed. All the criminals have been arrested from Bengal and Ranchi. The police have recovered other items including the bike used in the incident from them. All the criminals have accepted their crime.

Addressing a press meet on Saturday, Kaushal said that the arrested criminal Aman Kumar alias Guddu told during interrogation that his identity was from Sanjay Chaudhary, owner of Mangalam plywood shop located in Dailymarket, for about one and a half years ago. “Aman Kumar alias Guddu told Sanjay Chaudhary a plan to double the money. On this, Sanjay Chaudhary believed his plan. Guddu asked Chaudhary to bring Rs 15 lakh in cash on the day of the incident and instead it was decided to send double money through RTGS in his account within half an hour. After the matter was settled, Guddu along with some of his friends made a plan to snatch that money,” he added.

“On October 21, at 11.30 am, Saurabh Sabu came to Mangalam Plywood shop in Vishnu Gali with Rs 13 lakh in a bag. Vishnu Chaudhary was present in the shop at that time. As soon as Sabu entered the shop with the bag, it was informed to his other friends by the criminals following him. As soon as the information was received, Guddu, Abdul Nabi Sayyed and other criminals entered the shop and started inquiring about the money. Rs 13 lakh kept in the bag by Vishnu Chaudhary and Saurabh Sabu were shown to the above three and as promised, asked to send double money to their account through RTGS. At the same time other criminals also came to the same shop from behind. As soon as he came, the criminals started asking for money bags from Vishnu Chaudhary and Saurabh Sabu. Threatening to shoot if not given, the bag full of money started snatching,” said Kaushal.

The SSP further said that on protesting by Vishnu and Saurabh, the criminals opened fire with pistols kept with them. “In this sequence, Saurabh was shot in the left hand but the criminals could not escape with a bag containing money. On the attack, the criminals fled on the bike towards Bada Talab,” he added.
