Rajya Sabha (RS) MP Mahesh Poddar has urged to the farmers to increase the cultivation of pulses on a large scale after kharif season. Poddar had recently written a letter to Agriculture Minister Randheer Singh.
In his letter, Poddar has mentioned that the Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Center under the Ministry of Agriculture is mapping the kharif area of Jharkhand. Findings obtained from the analysis of mapping are being made available to the State Government with maps of the respective places for utilization of land normally left unused after a particular season. “Taking advantage of these findings of mapping, the farmers can earn extra crop on the fallow land after the kharif season,” Poddar stated.
According to RS MP, about 65 to 70 per cent of the area is left unused after the kharif season, especially in the southern parts of the state. Once the kharif season is over, about 25-30 per cent uncultivated land can be used in pulses cultivation.
