In an exclusive interaction with The Pioneer, Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha shared a confident and detailed roadmap for the operationalization of Bokaro Airport, setting 5 November 2025 — the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima — as the likely launch date. His determined leadership and meticulous coordination have infused new energy into the long-awaited project, turning the vision of an airport into an approaching reality for the people of Bokaro.

Speaking to The Pioneer, DC Jha remarked, “We are moving with a focused approach and time-bound targets. Every stakeholder — from BSL to AAI to local authorities — is in active coordination. The ground-level momentum is strong, and our collective efforts are now shaping into visible results.”

The Deputy Commissioner recently chaired a high-level review meeting, bringing together key officials from Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), Airport Authority of India (AAI), the forest and health departments, and the district administration. Departments were given clear directives to accelerate remaining work, with a timeline of 15 days to submit updates. Jha’s hands-on leadership in synchronizing various agencies has been pivotal in overcoming previous delays.

Among the notable developments shared with The Pioneer, DC Jha informed that the forest department is finalizing a watch tower on Satanpur hill, targeted for completion by July-end. BSL has been entrusted with constructing 10 watch towers around the airport perimeter, ensuring safety and enhanced surveillance. Meanwhile, preparatory efforts like fire mock drills, intensive sanitation drives, and structural inspections and upkeep of older watch towers are underway to align them with updated safety and surveillance standards.

Additionally, a dedicated road network for seamless airport access is nearing finalization. A planned encroachment removal drive, with a humane relocation strategy, will take place in August, reflecting the administration’s balanced approach to development and public sensitivity.

DC Jha told The Pioneer, “The Bokaro Airport project is not just an administrative milestone; it is a dream of the people. What’s truly encouraging is the sincerity with which every department is contributing. I firmly believe Bokaro is now ready to take off.”

Under DC Ajay Nath Jha’s dynamic stewardship, the once-stalled airport project has gained remarkable pace. His ability to bring together multiple departments, streamline responsibilities, and maintain urgency has emerged as a model of administrative effectiveness.

The upcoming Bokaro Airport is expected to transform the region’s connectivity, benefitting districts like Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Giridih, Hazaribagh, and Purulia (West Bengal), while boosting trade, tourism, and regional development.

With just months to go, Bokaro stands on the brink of a historic milestone — one that reflects not only infrastructure growth but also the unwavering commitment of its administration, led ably by DC Ajay Nath Jha. The choice of Kartik Purnima, a spiritually significant day across India, adds symbolic value to the anticipated launch — making the event even more momentous for the people of the region.
