To deal with increasing incidents of crime in a more effective way, Ranchi Police are preparing photo album and a centralised data base of history sheeter criminals to keep a close eye on their activities. Sadar DSP and Ranchi Police Spokesperson Vikas Chandra Srivastav said that their photographs will also be displayed at some of the crime hotspots to make people alert of them.
“A data base of history sheeter criminals is being prepared by the Police Stations so that a track of all those persons involved in theft, loot, snatching could be kept on one click. It will have all the details in it, including their photographs and the background, which will also help the police to follow them after a crime is committed in any area,” said Srivastav.
Srivastav said that it was still under process and will take some time to get it prepared as it requires each every minute detail about the history sheeted criminals. “The criminals are also being categorized looking at their past activities in which they have been found involved so that action could be taken immediately after a crime takes place,” said the Ranchi Police Spokesperson.
As the list of criminals having a track record of committing a particular kind of crime like snatching or loot will already be available with the concerned Police Station, it will not be easy for the criminals to get away after committing crime, he added.
“In addition to that, the victim or eyewitnesses of the crime will also be able to identify photograph of the culprit from the photo album available in the Police Stations,” said Srivastav. Initially, the album having all details in it including the their details and finger print is being prepared manually, but gradually it will be converted into digital form and will be made available to all Police Stations on one click, he added.
Srivastav said that this initiative will not only help in curbing the incidents of crime in the city but also help Police to nab them easily without wasting any time to identify them. The initiative has been taken on the directions of SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi and is also being monitored by him personally, he said.
The DSP said that the photographs of criminals will also be displayed through posters and hoardings after identifying the areas after identifying some of the crime hotspots making people alert beforehand.
It is still in the process and details of more than 300 criminals have been collected so far in three volumes. The album will be made available to the PCR Vans to make enabling them also to respond on time in case of any exigency.
