With permanent Aadhaar centres becoming functional across the State, the Unique Identification programme seems to have entered in its last lap. The centres are being specifically set up to cater the needs of modifications of Aadhaar information wherever required besides making it convenient for people who could not register themselves on previous occasions to get enrolled for the number.
The centres have been set up at as many as 58 locations across Jharkhand. People were waiting patiently for their turn at the Pragya Kendras underscoring the reach of the Aadhaar concept as well as its penetration in the State. Besides Pragya Kendra, such centres are also been made operational in block offices in several districts.
“We do not operate on Sunday but the enquiries regarding Aadhaar made us open the centre today,” said P Ranhan Pathak, in-charge of a Pragya Kendra. With enquiries exceeding dozens on Sunday, the permanent Aadhaar kendras is turning out to be a crucial step in the direction of “Aadhaar for everyone” in the State by December 2013.
According to an official estimate based on the population figures till 2011, more than two crore people have been covered under Aadhaar. By virtue of being a permanent centre, the Aadhaar Kendras seems have bridged the gap created by a temporary arrangement. Some pockets in Giridih, Palamu, Gomia and Koderma are said to have received an average of 15 enquiry calls till Sunday evening.
“Most of the enquiries are being made by employed people who could not avail enrolment facility earlier. Around 20 enquiries were made today,” said Ajay Kumar Barnwal, a Pragya Kendra operator in Jhumri Tilaiya. Notably, the centre will provide services with nominal charges necessary for the sustenance of the operations. The centre will charge Rs 10 for a copy of e-Aadhaar and Rs 15 for modification in the Aadhaar details.
