Para teachers adamant on demands, strike to continue

The recent brawl between security personnel and para teachers has turned into an ugly outrage of the teachers as they continue their strike severely affecting education at government schools across the State.

The continuous agitation led by the Jharkhand Para teachers Association since September last week here in the State Capital is getting bad to worse sidelining the interest of all those children enrolled at 46,000 government schools in Jharkhand. Regardless of getting rounds of warning from the State government to call off the protest at the earliest, the words are yet to fall on the deaf ears of the agitators.

The Department of School Education and Literacy and Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) have issued instructions to the protesting para teachers of all the five commissionaires to rejoin the duty on or before November 20 or else stringent action would be taken against them but the para teachers are hardly concerned about it.

“Merely Rs 234 has been increased for each one of us, of which, Rs 200 will be deducted under life insurance policy scheme. Hence, each para teacher will just get Rs 34. This is not acceptable in any case and as a result the protest will continue until all our demands are granted,” said, a representative of Jharkhand para teachers association, Bajrang Prasad.

If the protesting para teachers are to be believed then their remonstration is creating trouble at around 17,000 government schools influencing nearly five lakh children. Also, according to the para teachers, the distribution of Mid-Day-Meal (MDM) at these schools has come to a complete standstill.

On one hand where the State government is firm about its decision of terminating all those rigid para teachers who defy the orders while on the other side, the para teachers have chalked out the strategy to stage a massive protest in the days to come.
