It is to ensure free,fair and peaceful poll and to pin down any individual or source out to undermine or sabotage the electioneering by foul speech or by hatred or acrimonious message or by action smacking of communalism.

Stating this the SP Reeshma Ramesan said "Police control room (PCR) has this number in operation. A caller can give information about any provocative, inflammatory or obstructive idea, message or means committed or going to be done in the electioneering process."
She said any nefarious activity that comes in the way of the electioneering will be stifled with a very firm hand of law of the land.
The identity of such a caller will be kept in all strict confidentiality.
There is a popular perception that this lok sabha election will be on the lines of religion and NRC (national register of citizens) which are quite nerve wrecking in itself.
The number that police have floated will help weaker section voters most who will now feel emboldened enough to exercise their fundamental right to vote with heads high.
