More than half a dozen white collared people of the town, who were caught gambling in the prestigious Palamu club on Thursday night were given bail on Friday. The Palamu Club is a registered one and its ex-officio chairman happens to be the DC of the district. According to the SP Palamu Patel Mayur Kanhaiya lal, a team of civil and police officials had raided this club, which is at stone’s throw distance from the office of Palamu DIG of police and found these people gambling there.
The police brought them to the police station and a complaint was lodged against them under bailable sections of the Bengal Gambling Act, added the SP. The deputy superintendent of police Prabhat Ranjan Barwar on being contacted put the number of such people caught in the club at seven and said the police invoked sections under Bengal Gambling. Barwar said he had given suitable instructions to the town police, but did not share what he told the police to do. Asked if the raid of the club is spurred from any malice or any retaliatory step, Barwar said law is equal for all and law has taken its course only. The raid has come when festival Holi is weeks away. Information suggest that there are notorious gambling dens in and around the town. The club members are tight-lipped and are parrying queries of the press.
