On his way to Jashpur of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) Chief and Finance Minister, Rameshwar Oraon arrived in Gumla on Saturday for a day-long-stay. Oraon will attend a public meeting in support of Sarna Dharma Code in Chhattisgarh.

During his visit to Gumla, Oraon distributed Green Ration cards among the beneficiaries on behalf of the State Government's Food Supplies Department.

Oraon also held a review meeting with the Food Supply Department official and with the party workers of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Oraon said that the State Government is doing what it had promised during the State Assembly election campaign. He said that during the Corona period the Government has distributed food to every person, even those people got food grains who don't have ration cards. He said, “We promised that 1.5 million people will be connected to the public distribution system and ration will be made available through green cards to every needy and poor people of the State. Now cards are being given to beneficiaries.”

Oraon is going to Jashpur of Chhattisgarh to attend a public meeting in support of Sarna Dharma Code. Many party leaders belonging to the tribal community will gather in Jashpur for the meeting.

The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution in favour of this demand and sent it to the Central Government. Since then, supporters in the tribal dominated Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh on the border of Jharkhand have started trying to raise the issue. A gathering and rally was organized by code supporters at village Balachaur of the district just some days ago.

A section of tribal society is demanding that the tribal community be given a separate identity from Hindu society. They claim that the Adivasi worship system and culture is different from Hindus. Therefore, in the census to be held in 2021, there should be a separate column for tribal religion. At the same time, tribal organizations, including the Tribal Security Forum, have come out in protest against the demand by saying that many methods of worship are prevalent in Hindu society.
