Opposition eyes for staff selection panel after JPSC

Feeling boosted with their vindication one kind or the other over the JPSC row, Opposition parties have gone ahead demanding similar move to interfere with another exam conducted by Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

JMM’s Silli MlA Amit Mahto has submitted a notice and moved an Adjournment Motion in the Assembly in this regard which would be placed on Monday and likely to create noisy atmosphere once again.

The notice given to the Assembly Secretary claims that the premier staff selection agency of the State had not followed the set rules for reservation in the preliminary exam conducted in 2017 for filling up ASI posts.

“Reservation rules have not been followed in the preliminary exam (advt number-05/2017) taken place in 2017 for ASI posts by the JSSC whereas the JSSC in the section 10(2) of the same advertisement number had mentioned about following all the rules of reservation in place by the Jharkhand Government. Cut-off marks for both the unreserved and OBC categories have been kept at 335.81 in the examination which is wrong,” says the Adjournment notice set to be moved on today when the House would resume after four-day break.

The notice goes on framing the Commission further for misleading the Jharkhand High Court on this very issue. “JSSC has also misguided the court and said through an affidavit in the writ filled in the case of Gulam Sadik and others vrs The State of Jharkhand, WP(C) No.6272 of 2017 that ‘it is well settled law that benefit of reservation cannot be extended in the preliminary test examination’ whereas the Jharkhand Government has not formulated any rule in the present time. This is against the existing reservation rules of the State Government,” reads the motion.

Talking to The Pioneer, the legislator expressed hope that support of likeminded parties would be there. “The issue is relevant to the deprived sections of the State. I demand that the result of ASI published by JSSC be cancelled due to its not following the reservation rules and a corrected result be published. The House should debate this on urgent basis. I am confident of getting support of other members on this,” said Amit Mahto on Sunday.

The notice also referred about lowering age limit for the examination considerably than the previous examination taken by the JSSC which, the MlA claimed, has resulted in depriving many aspirants, especially of socially backward sections, from appearing.

The Opposition along with some members from the ruling BJP had raised similar issue relating to reservation into the PT exam for 6th civil services conducted by the JPSC in the House. Responding positively, Chief Minister Raghubar Das had assured the members to discuss the matter in the Cabinet which following a meeting later urged the Commission to postpone the Mains exam scheduled to start this week. Responding quickly, the JPSC had deferred the exam.
