A 65-year-old man identified as Dukhhan Chowdhury was beaten to death at village Baraon under Chainpur police station today.
Uday Kr Gupta officer in charge of the Chainpur police station said the deceased
had a long standing dispute with his own kin over land in the village.
Gupta said the old man this Thursday morning went to the same piece of land where his adversaries with whom he had had a long legal fight for the land and in which Dukhhan Chowdhury had a decree from the court of the additional collector revenue was ghaeroed and beaten with lathis and kicks who died on the spot.
The police officer said the assaulters kicked him and perhaps punctured his lung as there was blood coming out from the mouth of the deceased.
Gupta said the deceased’s sons and daughters in law knew Dukhhan was so badly beaten up but they did nothing to save him and came home leaving the old man to die.
Police officer said the old man was abandoned in the same piece of land.
Post mortem was conducted in the Medinirai medical college hospital in Daltonganj.
FIR has been filed by the sons of the deceased namely Mahender and Shiv kr Chowdhury against a dozen named people who are all kin of the deceased.
Sources said there is no arrest so far but police have stepped up the pressure.
