The ECI has found that the Jharkhand Government official who made available vehicle with red-beacon atop to Union Minister Arun Jaitely is guilty of the model code violation and would be booked for the mistake.
Responding to the question asked about the guff up happened when the Finance Minister had come to Ranchi on Tuesday on the release of the BJP’s poll manifesto, CEC VS Sampath said that the matter was still being investigated.
“FIR has been filled and inquiry is on. Prima facie the officer who had provided the lal batti vehicle is responsible as the person sitting inside may not be aware about the beacon on. The driver is also responsible and further investigation is on to find out others, if any,” he said.
The CEC also clarified that no Minister or official can use public exchequer for campaigning purposes during the imposition of the model code of conduct and the Commission would deal with any such violation strictly.
