NUSRl heading towards another student agitation!

With promises made by the authorities four months ago to bring the then student agitation to an end remaining largely unfulfilled, the National University of Study and Research in law (NUSRl) appears to have headed towards hosting another agitation in coming days, might be larger than what took place four months ago as students have written to all competent authorities including the High Court and the CM about prevailing situation.

In an e-mail to Acting Assistant Registrar Meenigam Sreenivasamurthy and copied to the Registrar, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Bar Council of India, Bar Council of Jharkhand, University Grants Commission (UGC) and few others, the students have reminded the authorities of the promises which were made on April 13 to the agitating students and have said that all those promises remained unfulfilled even after four months despite asking for only three months to mend all the prevailing mess in one of its only kind of university in State.

“It’s been too long since we ended our protest expecting something beneficial out of it, but its excruciating and chilling to have not seen even a single change amongst all what were promised to us. The present administration has unexpectedly become tyrannical and is trying its best to victimise the students as well as teaching and non-teaching members of this university. The present administration lacks basic compassion and has acted as power hungry and incompetent authority,” said the mail sent to authorities on August 16.

“The problem is that funds didn’t flow, infrastructure didn’t improve at all and administration has turned more incompetent in last four months. This is not what we students are here for,” said a student requesting not to name him as his was the version of students willing to take the fight for better NUSRl campus ahead.

“You know, the entire mess is of some 50 Crores of bucks. The university owes Rs 45 Crores to CPWD and long standing demands of students like Wi-fi, auditorium, advanced library and some other things can easily be met in some 5 Crores rupees. Government is not willing to pay even this much and whole mess is not only playing with the future of students but also with quality of campus,” said BC Nirmal who has resigned from his post of Vice Chancellor sometime ago but his resignation remains pending as of now.

Notably, removal of Nirmal was also one of the demands of students agitating four months ago. Nirmal chose to go on long vacation after Jharkhand Judicial Academy Registrar Gautam Chowdhary was appointed Acting VC of the University.
