Nilamber Pitamber university today had a harrowing time when only a dozen over aged and underaged students held the university officials, visitors and a couple of retired teachers hostage for more than three hours allowing none to go out nor anyone to come inside the administrative building of the university said sources.
Sources said there was a posse of police force of the town outpost 4 but it was sans magistrate which saw the police force remaining a mute spectator to this drama of hostage.
The AISF had held this agitation which could have been well handled by the police administration but it just did nothing precious.
Proctor of the university Dr KC Jha said the demands of the student body AISF are bizarre in the sense that it can’t be done right on the spot.
Controller of the university examinations Dr S K Panday said one of the demands is that there should be a wholesale galloping promotion in the UG level which will be in contravention of the rules and regulations of the examination.
These two officers said the university is always considerate towards the students but they just indulge in such activities that hamper the work.
Sources said again in the covid pandemic time such agitation where covid appropriate behaviour is given a big toss puts the agitationists and the officers and others in the university at life’s perils.
The university should knock at the district administration to declare its campus a no agitation zone till the covid pandemic.
Some agitationists scaled the boundary wall of the university and squatted right at the main grill gate.
It all started around 11.45 am today which went on till past 2.30 forcing a retired teacher held hostage to tell the agitationists that he needs insulin injection and such captivity is dangerous for his health.
The agitationists just paid no heed to him or his health emergency.
Sources said the university played a very positive and restrained move otherwise the way these handful of agitationists behaved most erratically there could have been any more worse situation.
