NP varsity postpones second yr medical viva/practical test

M FAIYAZ AHMAD

The Nilamber Pitamber university has postponed the practical and viva exams of second year MBBS students of the session 2019 - 20 of the Medinirai medical college at Pokhraha in Daltonganj citing 'unavoidable reasons'. The exams were to begin from Monday June 20 and were to conclude on June 22.

The NPU has also announced that new dates for the practical and viva exams of second year MBBS students would be announced later.

The postponement did not come for any reason of any medico demanding it rather the entire lot of the second year MBBS students just want their practical and viva exams to be over now without any more delay as it is already too late if their session 2019 - 20 is viewed in right perspective.

The NPU postponed the exams and that raised eyebrows. Sources said taht examinations were postponed due to lack of trust and confidence between NPU and Medinirai Medical College at Pokhraha.

Sandwiched between the two are the second year MBBS students. And the issue that was discovered is related to the approval of the examiners for this practical and viva exams.

There is now a blame game in which the NPU in writing has stated about one official of the medical college saying he 'will be solely responsible' for delay or postponement of the exams.

Interestingly this holding finger at one official of the medical college and bringing it into writing is dated June 18.

Intriguingly it appears the same day June 18 the NPU brings it in public domain about the postponement of the practical and viva exams of second year MBBS slated for June 20 citing 'unavoidable reasons.'

Now  how one individual as stated by the university 'will be solely responsible.. ...' when the university itself announced the postponement of the practical and viva exams due to the 'unavoidable reasons'.

The Pioneer has both the copies of the NPU - the postponement notice and 'will be solely responsible....' text.

Sources in the university and medical college said the more early the stalemate is removed, the more it is beneficial to the MBBS students, the university and the medical college.

And how this stalemate can be finished?  Sources said both the sides the university and medical college should put their heads together, draw a list of examiners who are easily available for the job and then to proceed to invite these examiners to come and conduct the practical and viva exams.

Availability of the examiners should be the prime criteria and how well the examiner in question has a rapport with the medical college can't be any overlooked  as there has been instances in the medical colleges where examiners have stayed back citing any reason on earth leading to the derailment of the examinations.

And who is the one to suggest who the examiner is who is readily available? Surely it is the college where the practical and viva exams are to be held said sources.

Sources said the university here has to have space for some liberty to be given to the college to have easily available examiner on its panel.

Pro vice chancellor of NPU Dr Deep Narayan Yadav said the university is committed to have all types of the exams conducted in a time frame.

Sources said it is the pro vice chancellor Yadav who leads from the front here in the university and takes everything in his stride.

The principal of the Medinirai medical college Dr Shailendra Kumar said our first priority is to ensure practical and viva exams of second year MBBS students get over at the earliest for which we all are concerned.
