In a bid to speed up file processing, the district administration Bokaro is all set to use WhatsApp — the most popular instant messaging smart phone application.

Having its uncharacteristic nimbleness, Uma Shankar Singh, Deputy Commissioner Bokaro, urged his officials to use WhatsApp to save time in processing of files. Using such applications, letters and instructions could be immediately delivered across the block offices and concerned person. Emergency meetings can be called through this application, said DC adding “We can keep a close watch and files can be tracked easily”.

“At least 70 per cent officials are using smart phones here so we have decided to take the advantage of this application. We are working to use this application in our official works and hope it would be implemented soon,” he added.

We are planning also planning to form a group of 50 administrative officials on WhatsApp which includes DC, DDC, AC, SDO, DRDA, DFO, DTO and other senior district and block level officials, he said.

“Beside them, SP, DSP and other police officials would also be in the group,” DC added.

Notably, WhatsApp rapidly emerged as a tool to check crime in Uttar Pradesh with the police receiving a series of complaints, including traffic violations and corruption, through this application. The Railway Police (GRP) also found WhatsApp useful and now they are using it to nab Railways staff, ticket collectors, coach attendants and others on a running train. This new app empowered journalists too.
