No rise in city crime graph, claims SSP

Claiming that there is no increase in crime graph of the State capital, Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar has said that steps have already been taken to track the criminals in order to prevent incidents like the recent murders took place in Ranchi.

The SSP, however, expressed concern over release of a large number of people from criminal gangs from jail in the last one year and said that it could a prominent reason for the recent killings in the city.

According to the data available with the Ranchi Police for the last 10 years, on an average 250 incident of murders took place every year, while only 93 murders have taken place this year till date. Similarly, if monthly graph is considered, last year 20 murders were recorded every month, while 17 incidents of murder have taken place in this month, which is less than the monthly average of last year, according to police.

Referring the reasons behind the sudden rise of murders which took place in the last one week, Kumar said that release of large number of people belonging to various criminal gangs from jail might be one of the reasons behind these successive murders. Strategies however, are being chalked out by the police to track those criminals and their activities in order to tame them.

The SSP also overruled the possibility of any linkage between the incidents of murder and also said that killings did not take place only because of land dispute. Barring two or three other deceased were not land brokers, he said.

Seven people got killed within a week in the capital raising eyebrows of the officials sitting on the top positions as well as the residents of Ranchi prompting Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) delegation to call on Ranchi SSP requesting him to take adequate steps to check such incidents of crime in the city. The delegation will soon meet Kumar at his office.
