There no respite for Hazaribagh residents from biting cold as the mercury dipped to a new record on Sunday.
The chilly breeze is adding sting to the cold wave. According to locals, four people — three from Keredari and one from Barkattha have lost their lives due the freezing cold. last week the minimum temperature was between 6.5 and 7.5 degree Celsius. But as Christmas came closer, it started falling down. On December 25, it touched the mark of 5 degrees Celsius. It further dipped to 4 degrees Celsius on the night of December 27 and 28 .
The weather forecast department of DVC local office and of Soil and Conservation Department are saying that it will go down further. As per their prediction it will reach near 3 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Till New Year it will touch the record breaking low of all time of 2 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature is hanging around 15 degree Celsius since last one week .But as per the prediction on the eve of New Year or on the first day of New Year it will also go down because chilly breeze coming from the North India are expected to come with more force and speed. It will certainly add more stings in the cold wave going on nowadays.
Bright sunlight from late morning to early noon is giving relief to the denizens of the district .Otherwise this year winter has arrived here in aggressive mood. Heat of sun between10 am and 3 pm is trying its best to heal the wounds given by this deadly winter. District administration, social organisations and conscious citizens are giving their best in combating with the cold wave. Distribution of blanket among the needy ones is going on at war level. Arrangement of woods at all important sites has been made .And above all the health department has also been kept on alert especially during night to save the lives.
