No ragging in Ranchi colleges!

Strange but true, colleges in the city rarely get ‘ragging’ complains. The city colleges even claim that the reason behind unreported ragging cases is the strict discipline existing within their college compound.

An official requesting anonymity of Ranchi College said, “We have a discipline maintaining committee which looks after such incidents. Till date we have not got any complains of ragging.”

The premiere city college St Xavier’s College has also not witnessed any such recent complains. “We do not have an exact anti-ragging cell to look after the students but the teacher’s committee assigned for such crime against students has never dealt any ragging issue,” said Dr Kamal Bose, Head of Hindi Department.

Doranda College Principal VS Tiwari with confidence echoed, “Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are installed all over our college which does the surveillance. We also have a committee for keeping a track on ragging matters. Till date we have not received any ragging complain.”

“There is no exact committee framed at our college to look after the ragging issues. Though we receive few complains of ragging, but none result to a major tension,” said Dr Prasanna Kumar David, an Associate Professor of Gossner College.

Even Marwari College including separate boys and girls colleges do not get any such complains. “We do have an anti-ragging cell for both intermediate and degree courses students but never get the scope to sort out ragging traumas,” said Marwari College Principal UC Mehta.

Adding to this list of ‘No Ragging’, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dean Dr SN Choudhary said, “There is an Anti-Ragging Cell comprising a committee of doctors which keeps an eye during day and night all over the campus. No cases are reported.”
