DIG Palamu Saket Kumar Singh today said that Friday’s failed attempt of the CPI Maoists to ambush a contractor, Mohan Gupta, near a government middle school at Gahoura under Pipra police station was not related to the ongoing panchayat polls.
Gupta’s wife was in the poll fray voting for which was over in the first phase November 22., The DIG said there is not even any distant or remote link to his wife’s contesting panchayat election as the DIG said Gupta is on the hit list of the Maoists since long as he has refused to buckled under any Maoist pressure or threat and lives his life on his own term..
Asked if Gupta ought to be so careless as to coming from a marriage ceremony so in Pipra area DIG said this man understands the Maoists plan on him and here again his level of alertness saved him. DIG said the Maoists very few in numbers were on bikes and Gupta the contractor was in his four wheeler. Sources said Gupta was signalled to stop by one of the Maoists in civvies who smelt rat and sped fast his car. The Maoists opened fire on him with their automatic weapon. It was a providential escape for this contractor said sources. Singh agreed that this contractor has the guts to say no to the demand of the Maoists and as such he has incurred the wrath of the Maoists. Police have given him protection sources said.
However Gupta went deep in Piprablock to attend a marriage function and this incident occurred to him on his return journey. He reiterated there would be adequate police protection for him since this man had stood the pressure and threat of the Maoists.
The DIG said there are people now who are refusing to dance to the tune of the Maoists and such people are to be well taken care of by the police but these people should also exercise caution and common sense for their own safety and security. Sources said Gupta’s reflex action outwitted and outdefeated the ambush plan of the Maoists as he even not for a fraction of second pulledany brake of his car to stop rather accelerated fast to escape.
One person has been detained by the police. The detained person’s father is in central jail Daltonganj for being a Maoist said DIG.
