National Highway-98 was kept jammed for more than eight hours last night following a 46-year-old dalit Chatan Bhuiyan was first hit by a heavy hy wa ( earth mover vehicle) and later by four other similar vehicles flattening his body to become part of the highway.
The incident took place under Harihurganj police station last night. Chatan was going home after distributing the sharadh card of his mother when he came under the wheels.
Fatalities from hy wa has become regular on NH 98 as the speed of this vehicle and the rashness of its drivers are felt unbridled.
Irate residents blocked NH 98 for more than eight hours blocking traffic to Bihar, Delhi, Punjab and Kolkatta Scores of Kanwariyas en route to Deoghar were also halted due to the jam.
Police had a tough time in getting this lifted. On assurances of ex gratia relief under social security scheme the jam was eventually lifted. The district administration has asked the block officer to aid the victim family.
