New Vice Chancellor (VC) of Ranchi University (RU) Dr Ramesh Kumar Pandey wants to make optimum use of the Internet to improve the atmosphere of the State university. He will soon launch a personal website where people can share opinions on what improvements can be made in RU. Also, he is aiming to introduce file tracking system for staffs and online scope of viewing evaluated answer sheets for students. What steps will you adopt to improve academic atmosphereIJ
Facilities for students and teachers will be made in college and university departments so that they can stay for a longer period. For example, many places are devoid of toilets. Regularisation of academic session is another important issue. Students of our university are often deprived of admission in other universities due to delay in publishing result. I want to strengthen the relation between teachers and students. Parents will be given the chance of meeting teachers. This will help parents in knowing the performance of their children. Also, it will ensure100 per cent attendance of students.
You are a person from science background. How will you utilise your field of studies in university’s developmentIJ
It is essential to have transparency in the examination department. We will allow students to view their evaluated answer sheets through online mode. In case of any fault in the evaluation process, they are free to point out. I would like to have tracking system of files for the staffs through the website of the university.
Are you mulling to start something uniqueIJ
Yes. Presently, I am working on launching my personal website where students, staffs, parents and media can give suggestions on what improvements can be made in the university. Also, they can share opinions about the university. It will help us to know whether we are correct or wrong.
Would you like to continue schemes like 'VC at your doorstep' started by the last VC Dr lN BhagatIJ
I will certainly continue schemes which have turned as a proper communication channel between the colleges and university. It will help in solving the problems of far off colleges at their premises within a deadline.
Are you satisfied with the research opportunities available in the universityIJ
We ought to take initiatives in research activities. I have visited several foreign universities where inter departmental activities are taking place. Similar efforts can be adapted here.
