Known to attract tourists round the year with its picturesque beauty and magnificence, Dassam Falls will now also offer a secure place to its visitors who used to keep away due to safety reasons with a new police station nearby.

Director General of Police DK Pandey inaugurated the Dassam police station located around 38 km away from Ranchi on Monday along with Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi, Rural SP Raj Kumar lakra and other police officials on Monday.

Criticising extremists in his address, Pandey stated, “Maoists are cowards – they do not have the courage to fight their battles face to face. So they hide behind the backs of innocent villagers. Their days are numbered. Maoists should return to mainstream society or they will face strict action.”

Apart from providing security to tourists visiting Dasham Falls, the new police station will also mitigate damage in accidents cases in nearby Taimara Valley and keep a check on extremist movement in the area, said Officer-in-Charge Pankaj Kumar Tiwary.

“The police station will cover 25 villages in three panchayats namely Taimara, Devaria and Churgi. Since the area is affected by left-wing extremism, a police station here will restrict movement of extremist outfits in the region,” Tiwary said.

The police station will help extend reach of police forces in rural areas of the State capital, he added. To strengthen this bond between police and public, DGP Pandey distributed items of daily use among residents of near villages. He also talked to children from the area who came to attend the police station’s inauguration.

Dassam Falls and Taimara Valley have been infamous for accidental deaths, which can be brought down by deploying police forces in the vicinity, Tiwary assured.

“Seeing how Dassam Falls is frequented by tourists round the year, we will ensure stringent security measures in the area. Our preparedness will be amped up during the months of December and January when the waterfalls see the most of its bulk of visitors in a year,” Tiwary said.
