NABH to train doctors heading hospitals

PNS

local doctors owning or representing hospitals can now receive training for National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH). Hospital Board of India (HBI) in collaboration with Indian Medical Association (IMA) Jharkhand State Wing stepped in for the idea during the First HBI State level Meeting on Sunday.

It will help in raising the standard of quality health care delivery. Moreover, the trend of ruling private hospitals by corporate houses may end due to the quality ensured by the trained doctors. Presently, Dr BP Kashyap and Dr BB lal are the two NABH assessors in the State.

“Doctors hailing from three kinds of criteria are eligible for NABH. Primary Care covers those who have a clinic with less than 3 beds. They will have to pay `1000 per annum for NABH training. Similarly, `2,500 would be charged from doctors under Secondary Care having less than 35 beds while those under Tertiary Care having more than 35 beds equipped with multi-speciality facilities will have to pay `5,000 every year,” said Dr BP Kashyap.

“Once their submission is approved by NABH, we will commence the regular workshops. It would be like training of trainers by master trainers,” he added. In case of the training, a doctor representing one hospital would not be considered for the representation of another hospital. “Businessman leading a hospital is not eligible for the training,” said Dr Kashyap.

Dr AC Akhouri, HBI Chairman, Jharkhand maintained that as per norms, a doctor mulling for the training must be member of HBI as well as life member of IMA.

Highlighting the advantages of NABH, Dr Kashyap said, “Hospitals get benefit of empanelment in Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and insurance regulatory organizations of India after NABH accreditations.”

According to State IMA Women Doctors wing president Dr Bharti Kashyap, merely 265 hospitals in the state is accredited to NABH.
