The State BJP has started mobilising its workers and supporters by launching a drive against erratic water and power supply scenario in Kolhan region.
Party activists led by former Chief Minister Arjun Munda on Wednesday staged a massive demonstration at district headquarters of West Singhbhum at Chaibasa.
“We are here to express concerns over the worsening condition of water and power supply across the Kolhan region. People are reeling under lack of basic facilities. Our demand is that the Government should take steps to improve power supply situation and also take initiative to bail out people from acute water crisis. Services like pure drinking water, maintenance of roads, cleanliness and better drainage system are the rights of every individual,” said Munda while interacting with the media.
Munda also targeted the Hemant Soren Government and said that the government was inefficient to deal with the prevailing situation. “Though we have 800 MW power available in the state, only 700 MW is being generated while 100 MW is lost in transmission. The Government needs to take proactive measures to ensure smooth power supply across the State,” said Munda addressing the party will intensify its campaign if the people at the helm fail to take action.
Meanwhile, peeved overpower scenario in Jamshedpur and other areas, BJP activists led by Jamshedpur East MlA Raghubar Das staged demonstration in front of East Singhbhum district headquarters. Activists in large number along with Jamshedpur MP Vidhyut Baran Mahto participated in it.
Addressing the demonstration Das said: “The people here are reeling under power crisis across the State. In most part of the areas electricity supply is not there and even in some of the locality where there is power supply is irregular. The age old electricity wires and poles are in abject condition with incident of power cuts being taking place frequently in summer. We are here to protest against the prevailing situation and create a pressure on the State Government to take immediate action”.
Citing examples of poor power supply, Amarpreet Singh Kale, State BJP spokesperson, said that through the agitation the party wants to give a message to the Chief Minister, who claims to improve the power scenario.
With regard to the electricity the scenario is far from improving as large population is solely dependent on limited sets of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam limited transformers in the area. The pitiable condition of the electricity wires and poles add more to the power woes of the residents.
