A Centre–State sponsored rural water supply scheme has been sanctioned for Kishunpur Sansad Adarsh Gram under Paton block in Palamu.
Sharing this MP Palamu B D Ram said the Centre and the state governments would pool in little over 1490 crore of rupees for this nearly 30 crore water supply scheme which is to be completed by 2019. More than 23,000 population having a household of more than 5,000 would be covered by this water supply.
V D Ram said the water supply scheme will have more than 93 Kms of pipe lines with three Jal Minars to be set up at three villages Chetma Sirma and Barseta. Till then villagers are taking water from an R>O set up at Kishunpur which offers 2,000 litres of drinking water every hour added Ram.
The water supply scheme will supply 4.50 million litres of water a day on its start in 2019. Ram said beneficiaries of this scheme should contribute notional amount on its completion for its maintenance as rural water supply schemes get a dead horse just for minor and timely maintenance.
However it was BJP MlA R K Kishore attending a press conference jointly with B D Ram said we do not believe in water supply only. We want conservation of water too and for this we are focusing as well on the water reservoirs too llke the Jinjoi water reservoir which is getting a facelift at an estimated cost of 42 crores.
Kishore had a point when he said water extraction from beneath the ground requires immediate replenishment of water too and this can be done only when rain water is preserved and conserved.
He said rain water is running off simply because there is a huge network of roads in even the remote areas but hastened to add that road is as important as water saving. He said concrete roads help run off rain waters faster. He lamented that 150 tube wells stand defunct in his Chhaterpur assembly seat. He conceded that rural water supply schemes become a non starter soon after its commissioning and its revival is too costly and hence it is desirable to have a new one in place of the old and defunct one.
He said he did not favour sinking of tube wells without caring for the recharge of the underground water.
Thus B D Ram and R K Kishore laid stress on water first for its conservation and then for its supply. Ram said the DPR readied for bringing down the water from the Sone river to Palamu has been put on hold as the DPR had not included some villages under Hussainabad sub division. Ram said once these villages are included the DPR would take off.
