The multipronged approach of Materials Management (MM) Department in the Financial Year 2022-23 has helped SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in not just fulfilling the materials requirements for the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the production chain, but also furthering the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.
RSP procured products worth Rs. 1873.22 Crore from Government e-Market Place (GeM) in the last fiscal, which is a whopping more than 300% rise over the previous fiscal to spur economic growth of the important sector.
The procurement from GeM was about 62% of the total procurement of Rs. 3016 Crore. The procurement from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSEs) stood at Rs. 718.37 Crore, which is highest ever and an increase of 74.5% over the year 2021-22. The procurement from the SC/ST entrepreneurs increased from Rs. 3.37 Crore to Rs. 5.85 Crore which witnessed an increase of 73.6% while there was a 200% increase in the procurement from women entrepreneurs over the last fiscal which stood at highest ever Rs. 40.12 Crore in 2022-23.
Besides RSP reduced the import procurement by 17.4% to Rs.57.23 Crore against last year’s import of Rs.69.32 Crore to bolster the self reliant India campaign in line with the Government of India’s Make in India (MII) Policy. Periodical Vendor Development programmes and interactions were organised to promote entrepreneurship and forge business tie-ups for mutual benefit as well as hone technical expertise. Besides, the intensive efforts of the MM department ensured reducing GARN lead time from 2.9 days to 2.2 days in the last fiscal. The Months of Consumption was also reduced from 5.63 to 5.24 during the period.
The encouraging results have motivated the team MM to continue to excel and play an instrumental role in all future endeavours as the Steel Plant is gearing up for an ambitious increase in its production and also for the expansion plan on the anvil.
