MlA has power to work for all: Maji

Sumedha Chaudhury

Jharkhand State Commission for Women (JSCW) Chairperson Mahua Maji who was inducted as Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate from the Ranchi constituency for the assembly polls on Saturday feels now she might have the “power” to work for all. Till date, her work was restricted to women issues. Talking to The Pioneer, she explained how easy it would be to work for the city denizens if she is chosen to the Assembly on behalf of Ranchi.

A writer by passion, you have been associated with social service and then became JSCW Chairperson. How are you feeling with the new identity called ‘politician’IJ

My vision of working for the public has widened. Since my family is staying in Ranchi since 1932, it is a golden opportunity to represent the hometown. Now, I might have power to work for all, be it men, women or children. As Chairperson of JSCW, I always have to rely on others for taking an action. In case I win, I will have the official power to take prompt action over an issue. Now, I am determined to talk less and work more.

Besides, women empowerment what are the priorities you would like to work for the development of the cityIJ

Most of the roads, lanes, drains and lamp posts of the state capital are in a pathetic condition. A proper system is required to improve these public properties. Safety of the residents during night hours is another important issue. I need the support of people in order to take initiatives for such developmental works.

BJP has nominated former Assembly Speaker CP Singh considered a leader of the masses from Ranchi Constituency. How do you see him as contenderIJ

Personally, I maintain a good relation with CP Singhji. He is quite senior to me in this field. I respect him. But, when it comes to political competition relations like uncle-nephew are overlooked. So, you can understand how I take the challenge at this point of time.

You will soon complete a year at Jharkhand State Commission for Women. How has been the journey so farIJ

I am glad that the Women Policy waited since the formation of the state was finally unveiled by CM Hemant Soren during the first ever celebrated Women Empowerment Day on October 15. My members and I rescued a girl from a mental asylum. City girls were rescued from Haryana with the help of police. We also succeeded in helping girls who were unable to file cases of blackmailing through a written application. We hope to celebrate our 365 days of joining after the Model Code of Conduct is over.

What are your campaigning plans for the electionsIJ

I will personally meet everyone for votes. It is not possible to please people through social media as I rarely get time to avail internet.
