At the time when common bike riders are facing the ire of traffic cops for not wearing helmets, Bokaro BJP MlA Viranchi Narayan and DDC Bokaro, Arvind Kumar found violating the same traffic rule.

Viranchi along with Kumar (pillion rider) were seeing riding a motorcycle in village Hirtand under Hesabatu panchayat to take an account of basic amenities available to villagers. Both of them were not wearing helmets.

Now city police have begun their crackdown on helmetless riders, if MlA and district administrative official violate the traffic rules then what others will do, said A Haq, a JMM leader. “Helmet and shoe is already mandatory for bike riders, now it’s also compulsory for the pillion riders; an order has been already executed on August  8, 2015 in this concern”, said J Tigga, DTO Bokaro. “We are on move for making our traffic scenario more close to the Supreme Court guidelines”, he added.

Majority of the ‘daredevil bikers’ don’t care to wear helmets. Aimed at forcing bike riders to use helmet, few years earlier the Apex Court in a judgement had made it mandatory for all two-wheelers manufacturers to include helmets in the kit they provided to the bike purchasers, he said.

“We would not leave any stone unturned to ensure its implementation”, added a senior traffic cop. Notably, Bokaro Steel City an industrial town reported maximum number of deaths due to road accidents in recent past years.
