Body of the missing Railway Engineer Madhu Samajhdar was found from a ditch behind the camp on Thursday.

Samajhdar had gone missing since Tuesday afternoon from his camp near Bukru Tola under Balumath police station in latehar.

“No any physical scar mark has been found over the body and it appears that somehow he slipped into the ditch and died, but we will be able to say anything in this regard only after postmortem report,” said latehar SDPO Anuj Oraon. Postmortem of the body will be done by a medical board, he added.

The body, according to Oraon, was found just behind the camp hardly 100 meters from it. “He apparently died after falling down into the 35 feet deep ditch filled with rain water,” said Oraon. Motive behind the killing, however, was yet to be ascertained, he added.

Police also asserted that Rs 15,000 in cash and two mobile phones carried by the engineers have been found intact. “Had the criminal gang been involved, they would have targeted the cash and the phone,” it said.

According to police, Samajhdar had gone to the Railway Base Camp at Jeri village and went traceless after he walked out of the camp office while talking on his mobile phone after receiving a call on it. Samajhdar, along with his other colleagues, had just returned after inspecting a Railway Bridge on Tuesday afternoon and had been sitting in the camp office with them.

After his colleagues could not find him around, police was called in, which started searching for the engineer.
