Health Minister Ram Chandra Chandrvanshi on Wednesday assured the doctors working in the State that the Medical Protection Act will be implemented soon in the State. The Minister said that it was the duty of the State to protect the doctors who serve the society in the most benevolent way.

A delegation of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Jharkhand Chapter met the Minister on Wednesday evening and submitted a memorandum requesting him for the implementation of the Medical Protection Act.

Earlier in the day, the delegation led by noted Ophthalmologist Dr Bharti Kashyap handed over a letter to the Governor and requested for prompt implementation of the Medical Protection Act. The Governor also assured the doctors that he would look into their demand.

The State IMA and doctors of the State have again joined hands for the implementation of Medical Protection Act in Jharkhand.  Also, they demanded for the Act by wearing a black ribbon at the IMA building in Morhabadi on Wednesday.

According to a press communiqué, doctors of the state are feeling unsecured after the recent incidents of attacks on senior medical practitioners by patients and their family members.   On April 13, a veteran doctor was attacked at a public place. Prior to that, another doctor was attacked in Maharashtra.

“On one side, we are bound to give the best medical facilities to the patients due to the Clinical Medical Establishment Act implemented in the state. On the other side we are socially unsafe as the Medical Protection Act has not yet been implementation. Previously, Governor had ordered for the ordinance of the Act but it was not implemented,” said Dr Kashyap, who is also the president of IMA Women’s Wing, Jharkhand.

Besides the demand for Medical Protection Act, the doctors have urged for the one time relaxation promotion which was approved by the Cabinet but not started. “We have also requested the government to provide the Dynamic ACPs of 1100 to 1200 doctors. It is pending for last one year. Merely, 500 doctors have been benefited with the mentioned ACP,” Dr Pradeep Kumar, Secretary of State IMA said.
