lured over handsome wages 16 migrant labourers, imprisoned by three firms in Tamilnadu for more than 29 days before police raids ended their ordeal of confinement, hunger and insult; rushed to home at Bokaro, day before Diwali.

We were in confinement, hunger and regularly insulted by the management of the firms, even we are not getting our daily wages and medical helps, alleged Mahadeo Mahato one enslaved worker.

luckily I got a chance and informed to my parents about our torment and they sought help from our Deputy Commissioner Rai Mahimaypat Ray, he said. “later, after the intervention of Bokaro SDO Sashi Ranjan and Tamilnadu’s local district administration, we were freed from the ordeal of confinement”, added Mahadeo.

All of the migrant workers are hailing from Dhanbad (Baghmara block) and Bokaro (Chas and Jaridih block) districts. One local contractor Ashok Kumar Mahato had deceived us, alleged Sumit Mahato another enslaved worker.

The contractor promised us for employment with medical facilities in Tamilnadu with a plum package (Rs 600 per day); he accompanied 37 workers form Bokaro and Dhanbad and deployed us in three motor parts manufacturing companies were M/s Dhaniyashree Pvt. ltd., Suprime Pvt. ltd. and Sihoyo Pvt. ltd. at Hosur (an industrial town) in Tamil Nadu, said Mahato.

Irked over the alienated attitude of the companies’ management 21 workers from us were escaped after ten days from there. later the management kept the rest of us in captivity. They started thrashing us; “we were in confinement and hunger, even we are not getting our daily wages”, he said.

The workers who migrated for their livelihood were - Mahadeo, Sumit, Chittranjan, Bhagirathi, Gangadhar, Kuldip, Sunil, laxman, Abhimanyu, Balram, Dukhu, Raju, Raghunath, Deepak, Santosh, Bankim and Dinesh, safely rushed to their home. We are investigating and FIR will be lodged against three Tamilnadu based firms as well as local contractor too, said DC Rai Bokaro.
