Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra on Thursday inspected important squares of the city in order to explore beautification opportunities and changes needed to ensure better utility of space.
Lakra, along with her team, inspected Durga Mandir Chowk, Piska More, Shehjanand Chowk, Harmu Chowk and Kishori Yadav Chowk.
“A DPR will be made for beautification of all the squares. We will hold meetings with various stakeholders and decide how to go about the projects,” said Lakra.
Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargiya, who accompanied Lakra during the inspection, said that most of the busy squares in the city were unplanned and proper planning will not only make them more appealing to the eyes but also increase space.
“A lot can be achieved only by shifting auto stands away from the squares,” Vijaywargiya said.
He added that street vendors encroached a lot of space near Durga Mandir Chowk, which causes frequent traffic jams in the area. “Shifting the street vendors to some nearby space will help ease the traffic there,” said Vijaywargiya.
During the inspection on Thursday, the Mayor also decided to get public urinals constructed in different parts of the city.
At present, in absence of a urinal, public urinate on the walls in many localities.
“We will identify such areas and construct urinals around them,” said Vijaywargiya.
