SURESH NIKHAR

Maoists are reportedly losing support of tribal in Nawadih block of the Bokaro district a stronghold of the rebels that shares borders with Giridih and Hazaribagh.

The rebels have enjoyed an advantageous position in Nawadih block due to solid tribal support. But sources said excess interference of Maoists in the day to day life of tribals is eroding their support base in the area.To build confidence among villagers of upper ghat, a Maoist-affected block of Bokaro district, held a meeting at the forest area of upperghat here on Sunday night ,sources said.

According to sources, more than 100 rebels including local villagers, assembled near Kachho and Pipradih forest areas .The meeting has been described as local issue and slow pace of implementation of schemes in the villages of 18 panchayat of Nawadih block of the Bokaro district have been issued of the meeting, sources said.

Sources said that two blocks of the Bermo sub-division including Nawadih and Gomia have borne the brunt of Maoist activities, but complain of step –motherly treatment meted out to it by the Government just because they do not fall under the constituency of the high and mighty in the State.

According to sources the slow pace of implementation of various development schemes in villages of the 16 panchayats of Gomia and 18 panchayat of Nawadih block of Bokaro district have been completely isolated them from the mainstream. Even the police are apprehensive of making forays into the region. Negligence of the district authorities has strengthened the clout of the Maoists ,said local villagers. The growing Naxal influence here can be best gauged from the diminishing faith of people in the administration as well as police ,they further added.

But sources said that in recent past extremist activities decreased in the two blocks as the local police appealed the villagers to join the fight against the rebels and spread a message of friendsship and peace among the villagers ,police sources said.
