The ‘realms’ or extent to which the human mind can move, depends to a great extent on the cognition, perception and experience one has in his or her life-time, through the five senses. Thus, we can say that the normal mind is restricted by the capacity of the senses and that our perceptions are conditioned and are not absolute. In order to break the limitations, we need a method whereby the limits of mind can be expanded beyond its normal frontiers. There are many techniques in yoga to expand our limitations, to achieve expansion of consciousness and liberation of the mind. One of the best techniques is the practice of ‘Mantra Sadhana’ which is mentioned in our scriptures. Mantra chanting is a very effective tool for evolving individual consciousness. It is a sound or vibration, creating resonant waves in the realm of consciousness. Proper chanting of the whole Mantra generates a particular resonance pattern. The resonance travels from the brain to the entire body. Recognition of the movements of resonant waves into different parts of the body with full awareness produces very specific effects on the mind and emotions. The resonating waves of the mantra help alter the level of consciousness. There is shaping, moulding and transformation of each and every cell in our body. Continuous repetition of mantra can help in awakening of the spiritual consciousness which is the ultimate reality of human- being. “tadadrastuswarupevasthanam” means to establish in his own form.
