Local residents on Thursday wrote to district administration of Bokaro seeking its help in rescuing four labourers stranded in Hyderabad for over 10 months. All the labourers sent to Hyderabad are from Swang in Gomia block of Bokaro district.
Family members said most of the labourers hail from Bokaro's Gomia region. “Private company representatives often lure these villagers to work for Hyderabad based companies. The matter remains under wraps unless there is a problem," said a resident.
Prakash Singh, Chandan Kumar Bhuniya and Tinku Kumar said that the four labourers in Hyderabad have neither been able to send money home nor are they being allowed to return. "Some of the family members of these labourers have said that their all identity cards have been confiscated by the contractor in Hyderabad," said a kin.
In their letter, the family members have alleged that the four labourers identified as Vikky Chauhan, Chhotu Chauhan, Raju Singh and Pawan Singh are also being tortured and held captive. "They are stranded for the past 10 months and are not being provided sufficient food," they said.
The families of these labourers are yet to approach the police. Bokaro Superintendent of police P Murugan said he has not received any information on any stranded labourers. “We will look into the matter and trace the agency involved in taking the villagers," he said.
Sources said that 24 workers of Gomia block of Bokaro district of Jharkhand, who had gone to Karnul in Hyderabad through a local broker for jobs 10 months ago, have been trapped there. The employer is not paying the wages to those labourers and threatened to assault them. Their families have intervened with the local administration and have made a plea to find the solution to return all four workers stranded in Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh.
