Liquor retailers’ indefinite strike begins today

PNS

The Jharkhand Retail Liquor Dealers Association (JRLDA) has called on liquor shopkeepers across the State to close their stores indefinitely from October 15, due to their various demands. JRLDA has demanded reduction in increase in special excise duty and late fee from the Excise Department.

JRLDA General Secretary, Nishant Singh said that the retail liquor dealers have said that the special excise duty imposed by the State Government has been adjusted in the excise duty, due to which more Capital is required to run the shops, which is not possible in the Corona era because sales have gone down. Singh said that due to the decision of the Government to increase revenue, the double whammy is falling on the liquor retailers, due to which they are going through a serious economic crisis and have been unable to run their shops.

The Association General Secretary further said that even after Unlock 5, many economic activities, rail and bus operations are still disrupted, due to which the sales of liquor vendors have come down, they have met the Secretary of the Department and handed over the memorandum to make them aware of all the problems.  "Retailers were asked to take revenue in line with the off take until December due to laxity in trading activity in the Corona period, such as taken in May and June, reducing the 5 per cent late fee currently being charged at retail liquor retailers 0.5 per cent," he added.

Lamenting on the problem Singh said that apart from this, the entire brand wing is not available on time by Jharkhand State

Beverages Corporation Limited, it should be done smoothly, the Government does not consider our

memorandum policy then we request that by adjusting the advance secured amount deposited by us please withdraw our licence.
