After Sahitya Akademi Awardees and winners of national honours began returning the same to the Government, suddenly ‘rising intolerance’ became the next buzz word and has gripped the entire nation by a storm. In support of such recent protests, the left wing parties organised a march that started from Sainik Market, Main Road and ended at Albert Ekka Chowk on Wednesday. The

protest that was attended by about 200 members of left wing political parties such as the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M), Maoist Coordination Committee (MCC), Forward Bloc and SSUI.

The left wing party members shouted slogans such as ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ and ‘Modi Sarkar Hosh Me Aao’ put the complete onus of the ‘growing intolerance’ on the present government and the Right wing parties. “We are protesting for a true secular state and we will march for our unity. The current government and the Right wing parties such as the Shiv Sena, Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) are eyeing to divide the entire nation in the name of religion or Hindutva. This is a fight for the tribals, poor and the farmers who are constantly being duped by political parties to give up their lands. This phase can be termed as a conspiracy to divide common people and what can make anyone kill each other apart from religionIJ In the past, we have seen several riots in various places in the country, including the recent ones in Ranchi and Hazaribagh. We have to stand up as one and fight for ourselves by first avoiding any sort of discrimination based on religion,” said Gopikanth Bakshi, Jharkhand Unit Secretary, CPI(M).

Meanwhile, the rising intolerance can only be controlled through regular, detailed dialogue between people from all religion and caste, according to the committee members of the SSUI. “The ministers are busy satisfying their vote banks. But, what BJP fails to realize is that by celebrating Constitution Day and failing to follow it, leave aside respect it, is the main reason behind these protests and riots in the State. Have these people forgotten that we are a secular, socialist stateIJ We have planned to organise similar protests in other districts of the state and this will continue till December 5. We will hold seminars and discussions at all levels with people from all religion, caste and gender. It is only, then that we can reach a point wherein we can all stand united,” said Subhendu Sen, Central Committee Member, CPI(M).
