Not everything is black about politicians and their politics in Jharkhand; at least on the front of women empowerment. Politicos of the tribal State, which is often in news for lower human development indices, social problems and even worse record on gender issues, may take a pride especially when it comes to their own better halves!
If one look at the acceptance made before the Election Commission in the run up of parliamentary polls, many of the prominent candidates into the fray are poorer than their counterparts.Interestingly, most of the better halves do not do significant works in their professional journey and often seen walking along their hubbies.
Bharti Singh has not only filled her latest Income Tax return as Rs6,20,790 against her husband and JVM candidate for lok Sabha from Dhanbad Samresh Singh’s Rs 4,30,000 but richer than the firebrand leaders as well. Her movable properties are worth over Rs21.4 lakh and immovable Rs51 lakh while ‘poor’ Samresh has just over Rs15 lakh and Rs12 lakh of movable and immovable properties respectively against his name. Financially upper hand Bharti is in renting and business profession.
Another labourious wife of politician is Dulari Devi, wife of Chandra Shekhar Dubey alias Dadai Dubey, contesting polls from Dhanbad. The lady Dubey is a crorepatni. She possesses Rs1.09 crore of movable asset way ahead of her septuagenarian leader’s Rs27.5 lakh. Not in terms of movable but when it comes to fixed assets Mrs Dubey has Rs64 lakh more than just Rs1 crore with her husband.
Nishikant Dubey is BJP candidate from Godda and pays Rs87128 premium for lIC annually but his wife Anamika Gautam deposits Rs2.57 lakh for Rs60 lakh as sum assured. She is ahead in terms of movable and immovable assets in the tune of lakhs hinting the sitting MP to work even harder.
Dubey’s opponent from the Congress from Godda Furkan Ansari has nearly half the cash into hands. Hold-on. Mutsari Khatun has 56 lakh of immovable asset while the contesting leader has just Rs4 lakh. Bina Devi has double the amount in hand that that takes her to Rs1.34 lakh.
Nonetheless Sudesh Mahto’s wife Neha is the riches among the lot. She has filled ITR of Rs1.78 crore, has seven lakhs in hand, worth Rs393.5 lakh of movable asset and 50 per cent share in S Sudarshan Group. The wealth takes her ahead of her AJSU chief husband.
Rupi Soren had Rs481000 in 2009 which jumped in 2014 as inclusive value of her assets worth Rs7443484 of movable and Rs15226000 of immovable. Shibu Soren’s wife has accumulated through noble profession of agriculture and dairy. JVM chief Babulal Marandi’s wife Shanti Devi not only went from nil to Rs1,594,369 in terms of property in five year time but also became a ‘business woman’.
