An upcoming paediatric intensive care unit at Manan Chotaag in Latehar district is bogged down with different problems. There is a manned railway crossing here and traffic of trains like passenger trains, express trains and goods trains is too high which leads to intermittent hold up of the road traffic. Even if fewer passenger trains are running on the track at this time, the ferrying of the goods train is enormous every day — nearly 80 or 90 a day.
A passage to intensive care unit be it of paediatric or of the adult if it is so laced with frequent shutdowns and openings of the railway crossing for traffic of trains, ought to be free so as when any situation arises for a green corridor which is zero traffic on the road except the ambulance in which the critical patient is to be rushed then in that event this railway crossing is a big hurdle.
Sources said so long this manned railway crossing is here, the creation of a green corridor to rush life threatening patients to intensive care unit will mean stoppage of the traffic of the trains which is not any easy task to achieve.
Sources said the DC Latehar Abu Imran has shot off a letter to the divisional railway manager East Central railway Dhanbad on Wednesday suggesting the railway officer to go for either road over bridge or road under bridge here to have a ‘hassle free’ passage to the intensive care unit.
Imran told this correspondent that we need a smooth reaching at the intensive care unit at Manan Chotaag and not the one where one is made to wait at the railway crossing for any train to be through on the track.
There is already a welfare hospital at Manan Chotaag in Latehar.
He agreed any wait before reaching the intensive care unit with a patient is awesome and reactive too.
Imran said this manned railway crossing is a bottleneck for the ambulance or for the fire brigade to cross each side just for its shutting and opening for the traffic of the trains.
The DC Latehar expressing hope said the DRM Dhanbad would be considerate to this demand of the Latehar administration for road over bridge or road under bridge.
