PNS

Speaking on the advantages and efficiency of lasik surgery Dr Bharti Kashyap, Medical Director, Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, Ranchi said that this type of surgery is cheapest, painless, the safest and most predictable to improve vision. Dr Kashyap was addressing a gathering of noted ophthalmologists at a special discussion on the efficiency of the lasik surgery in a mid-term conference on Cornea held at Patna on May 31. The event was organised jointly by the Bihar and Jharkhand Ophthalmic Society.

“If you want to throw away your glasses and contact lenses, lasik, which uses a laser to reshape the cornea and correct visual problems, is the safest. This type of surgery is very safe for people particularly below 40 years of age for myopia (nearsighted, short-sighted) correction up to 12diopters and hyperopia (farsighted, longsighted) correction up to 6diopters and cylinder power correction up to 6diopters,” Dr Kashyap said.

She pointed out that for patients, lasik surgery has no side effects and is quite economical, costing around Rs35,000 to Rs40,000 for surgical interventions for both the eyes. She further informed that a number of job aspirants, often declared medically unfit on account of various eye ailments, can get their visual problems corrected without having to wear either contact lenses or eye glasses.

As compared to ICl surgery, it has no complications regarding development of cataract and corneal endothelial damage. In many situations where ICl cannot be done like bigger size of dark adated pupil, narrower angle, shallow anterior chamber depth, lasik is the best choice.

For high plus or minus power with astigmatism in age group below 40, Bioptics is performed that is ICl with lasik. For high plus or minus power with astigmatism in age group above 40, Bioptics is performed that is Multi-Focal IOls with lasik.
