Everybody knows their culture but learning the same cultural value of other countries expands our knowledge on cultural awareness. With this concept, a team of South Korea college students visited St Paul’s College on Monday. They shared their dancing style ‘Taekwondo’, conversation and eating patterns with the students here.
“Since 2001, students from South Korea have been coming to the state capital on learning our Indian Culture. In summer season there, Big Youth Camp happens wherein college students either pursuing studies or pass outs participate and divide into teams to know the culture outside their nation,” said MB Horo, Convenor of Campus Crusade for Christ managing the hospitality of these foreigners.
The 15 member Korean team comprises boys and girls who owe a degree or undergoing a degree in medical, engineering or science. Horo said that the students who are at the state capital for last three days were surprised to learn about mixed culture and food habits of Indians. He said, “Koreans cannot speak English fluently but put best efforts to recognize the English words used by us. Also, eating food without chop stick in India is something unique for them.”
He further added, “We tried to approach many other city colleges for this interaction but very few accepted the proposal. On October 4, students will be interacting with the St Xavier’s College hostellers. They would then visit Bethesda College.”
This trip is basically an educational tour giving the Koreans a golden scope to learn culture of other Asian countries. They would be halting at Ranchi till October 10.
“With such foreign interactions, we encourage our college students to have the guts of interacting with foreigners even if they cannot speak English. Conversation can be done even in actions,” said Horo.
