Koderma marks Prophet's birth anniv

SN SINHA

A huge procession to mark the birth anniversary of Hazrat Mohammad Paigambar, founder of Islam on the occasion of Id-e-Milad graced the Jhumaritelaiya roads on Sunday. The occasion was observed throughout the district.

Committees from Bhadodih, Chhatarbar, Jhalpo, Gumo, Jainagar, Markachcho, Jalwabad arranged the procession. Madrasa Gulshne Ajmer of Bhadodih took out the procession from Bhadodih and passed through the main roads of the town and culminated at Jhanda Chowk the heart place of the Jhumaritelaiya. The dignitaries of different religion and the civic body including Anwarul Haque, vice-chairman of Jhumaritelaiya council were present on the occasion.

Maulana of the Madrasa said, “Sunni Muslims observe the Prophet Mohammed's (also known as Mohammed or Muhammad) birthday on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi' al-awwal, while Shi'a Muslims mark it on the 17th of this month. Muhammed is believed to be the last prophet.” There are mixed beliefs on how one observes the Prophet’s birthday. Some see his birthday as an event worthy of praise. Others view the celebration of birthdays as contradictory to Islamic law. Both sides cite the Hadith (narrations originating from the words and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed) and events from Mohammed's life to support their views, he added.

However, many Muslims also do not participate in celebrations on this day. Instead, they may mark the occasion by spending more time to read the Quran. Mohammed is said to have been born on a Monday and some scholars see fasting during the hours of daylight on Mondays as another way to celebrate his birth said Maulana Nasir of Asnabad Madrasa.
