A team of country’s renowned eye surgeons including Dr BP Kashyap, Dr Bharti Kashyap, Dr Nidhi Gadkar, Dr Pritish Pronnoy and Dr Sunil Kumar operated 125 persons with cataracts at Sohri Chandravanshi Hospital, Nawadih, Kala, Vishrampur in Palamu on Thursday. The free eye checkup cum surgery camp was organised jointly by KMEH charitable branch Kashayap Memorial Eye Bank and Ramchandra Chandravanshi Welfare Trust.

On the first day of the camp on Wednesday 1178 people underwent eye check up out of which 410 persons were detected with cataracts. As many as 125 persons were selected for cataracts operation, while many others were advised to wait for getting it matured and some were asked to control their blood sugar.

Pterygium was found in the eyes of 72 patients, who were given free lubricating drops and asked to put dark glasses when they come out in the sunlight.

Founder Director of KMEH Dr Bharti Kashyap said that the surgeries were performed for the first time in the country by latest and safest Centurion Phaco machine. It is world’s safest and most modern phaco machine, she added. The people who underwent surgery would be taken care of by a team of KMEH at Sohri Chandravanshi Hospital for next two days and they have been given free medicines also. Dr Kashyap said that the Centurion Phaco machine uses the most developed technique to break the cataracts in small pieces. The automatic system provides stability to the eye pressure during each stage of the surgery. A good fluidics management and surgery procedure enables the system to use least possible energy and therefore the cornea does not get affected even if strong cataracts are broken into pieces.
