The Department of Tourism is yet to renovate the structures where the cafeteria is located for leisure buffs convenience at one of the most visited recreational sites situated in the heart of the State Capital, Rock Garden on the banks of Kanke Dam. The beautification work has been pending since long. Earlier, too several times, attempts had been made to take-up the project but were left half-way.
located on prime site and wrapped up with natural beauty, the man made cradles being built up since 2011 is yet to get started. Waiting long for the bidder, now the Tourism Department has decided to carry the entire restoration task under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
“The department had been brainstorming about the project since long and finally after consultation with few agencies, the project has been drafted out finally and now within a year, the project will be complete under PPP mode. The decision has been taken up recently,” said, Director, Department of Tourism Prasad Krishna Waaghmare.
“The beautification task will include all kinds of works ranging from pathway construction, to planting sapling around its periphery and along the river side. The tender will be floated soon for the restoration project under build and operate norms,” added Waaghmare.
Even after the directive from the Former Chief Secretary to take up the beautification task on priority basis, no serious attempts have been made towards the restoration project. A month long deadline for officials to complete necessary formalities and begin the beautification of major dams that includes Kanke and Hatia dam project in State capital among the other major water reservoirs in Jharkhand was shelved for long in the absence of resources.
These dams are primarily drinking water sources as well for the city residents. Notably, Kanke dam is being maintained by the drinking water and sanitation department along with the Department of Tourism and is the ultimate tourist destination because of its natural surroundings and scenic beauty.
