Jindal Steel and Power limited (JSPl) Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of the steel and power major, is planning to open smaller health centres and hospitals across the country for children, especially in deprived rural areas. The health centres would be linked centrally with Fortis-Jindal Hospital and would also be supplemented with accommodation for family members accompanying the patients.Informing about the new initiative, Shallu Jindal, Co-Chairperson of the Foundation, said that the company was also willing to work closely with the Jharkhand Government for the overall development of the State.
“The idea to open small hospitals is under consideration of the Foundation in which we want to ensure basic health facilities to the children living in poor areas of the country. Along with this, we would also open dhramshalas (rest houses) so that parents accompanying the children can stay there. We have several other initiatives under our CSR programme which would be rolled out in near future,” said Shallu Jindal on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony of 21 individuals from different parts of Jharkhand for their commendable jobs in social sectors. The individuals were conferred with ‘Swayamsiddh Samman’ in her presence on Wednesday.
Unveiling some of the future initiatives of the CSR arm of the company, Shallu Jindal said that the company had planned to provide drinking water facility in 14 villages of Patratu, health centres for women, more number of self-help groups and over 2500 lavatories at Jheraldaburu and Patratu areas.“We have planned population stabilisation programme for Ramgarh district and similar activities at Godda. Also, the JSPl Foundation is willing to work closely with Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi and his organisation ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’. Though we have challenges of naxalism in the State and irrespective of the status of our projects at Godda and Asanboni, which could not start due to certain reasons, we are spending more than two per cent of our profit against statutory provision for CSR,” said Shallu, the wife of Naveen Jindal, Chairman of JSPl.
