Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has reached a conclusion where ‘outsider’s role’ has been found in upsetting its apple cart during the Rajya Sabha election that took place in June in Jharkhand. As a fall out of the fact finding report the party has conveyed unofficially to whom it was intended and distanced itself as well.
“The investigation initiated is complete and the fact finding report is with us. There was certainly a foul play and it was not from inside. Outsider has sabotaged the thing for us,” said party general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya who stated that the matter has been raised at other party’s level. “We have done what we should have done,” says Bhattacharya.
Unofficially, the party leaders quipped and pointed towards the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) for the entire political drama unfolded on the poll day when the JMM having sufficient numbers on the paper to win a seat for its nominee and younger brother of party’s working president Hemant Soren, Basant Soren, lost the battle to BJP’s Mahesh Poddar by a whisker. The party got two votes polled against it which could have easily won the seat for it despite several absentees.
“The probe team reached to the conclusion based on circumstantial evidences it could gather as it was not possible to peep into the secret ballot taken place closed door. You may see the distance grown between the two parties which had come very close to each other by burying their all hatchets,” said a senior party functionary.
JVM supremo Babulal Marandi and Hemant Soren had developed unforeseen bonhomie when the latter drove down seeking the support of party’s two members to take his brother to the Upper House of Parliament. Political rivalry of both the tribal base parties was quite known before that.
On the allegations, the JVM tendered technical arguments hiding behind the unavailable proof. “Nothing officially has been conveyed to us from the JMM in this regard though I am unsure about unofficial exchanges. As far as any foul play from our side is concerned they cannot say it convincingly as there is no evidence to it. There may also be two other left members (Arup Chatterjee of Marxist Coordination and CPI-Ml’s Raj Kumar Yadav),” said JVM senior member KK Poddar. Nevertheless he also feels that considering their left ideologies and leniencies it is unlikely that Chatterjee and Yadav would have voted for the rightwing BJP.
Answering to the inference about the rift grown up between the two parties again since then, Poddar termed it a leadership tangle. “There were all other parties except the JMM at Barkagaon agitation. All the parties were admitting to the leadership of Babulal Marandi but the JMM is unwilling to do so,” added Poddar.
Amid all this, the JMM is refraining from going public with the findings considering the gain it would be for the BJP which would harp upon the mis-match alliance theory by the Opposition just for the sake of a win which as expectedly could not last any longer.
