PNS

JMM executive president and leader of Opposition Hemant Soren on Thursday dropped sufficient hints that his party would field its own candidate for the Rajya Sabha election slated to take place on June 11.

When asked about the party’s standing on the matter Soren though did not answer straight. “Our party president (Shibu Soren) is not here and we after consulting him will take a call, may be on Friday. As far as question of our claim on one seat is concerned, it is very much there. My personal opinion is also that the JMM should field its candidate for one seat,” said he.

The party has 19 MlAs while any candidate needs 28 legislators’ support for getting elected to the Upper House from the State. Nevertheless, Congress is also staking claim to the seat going to fall vacant due to its sitting MP Dheeraj Sahu’s terms ends in July along with of MJ Akbar of the BJP. Soren also mentioned that consultations with Congress have taken place but no final decision about supporting its candidate has been done.
