Once a fertile ploughing ground for the left-oriented political outfits, Palamu is again going to host some of the young student leaders of the country on November 16, a day before the famous uprising Bolshevik Revolution completes its anniversary.
The rally with the theme of ‘save democracy-save sovereignty-save Constitution’ would be addressed by former JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar, young dalit leader from Gujarat Jignesh Mewani and Shehla Rashid of AISA besides, few others.
The whole idea behind the event, the organizers feel, is to highlight the plight of poor, tribals, dalits ‘sarvahara’ class facing ire of the Government in the name of development.
“The event is entirely political in nature since we are living in such a system. Apart from tearing apart recent steps in the form of demonetisation, GST, CNT-SPT amendments and pro-corporate polices of the Government, the leaders would expose the reasons behind mass level migration, job loss and hunger deaths taking place in the State and other parts of the country,” said Rajiv Singh of AITUC who is instrumental behind the bringing such names together on a platform.
He added further that the rally would not only refresh the legacy of the greatest revolution in the history of mankind in the hearts and minds of the oppressed class which is still counting, but also provide the young and fiery brains the much needed exposure.
“There are known left leaders among us but the poor class are looking up to younger generations. The hope rests now on the student leaders like Kanhaiya and Jignesh who create flutters wherever they go and speak. Even people are willing to listen to such leaders who are fearless in their thoughts and expressions,” added the leader of mining labourers.
However, the rally would not be held under the banner of any left political party but iconic symbol of the revolution ‘hammer and sickle’ would be displayed prominently. Answering a question about choosing Palamu for the event, Rajiv Singh said that the parched belt of the State has seen presence of the Communist ideologies since long.
“left minded politics has notable presence in Palamu due to feudal forces in the form of big landlords, lots of mining and industrial activities growing later on and at the same time huge labour, landless and working class struggling to meet their two ends. All the three districts of the Division together have one of the largest concentrations of dalits and OBCs in Jharkhand,” said he.looking at incidents of disturbance, especially due to the presence of Kanhaiya, the District administration is also taking all preparedness for the rally. “We have received information about the event for November 16 at Shivaji Maidan. All required arrangements would be done to ensure that it passes off peacefully without any disturbance,” said an official in the DC office on Saturday.
