The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) team assigned the job to conduct a survey for sewerage and drainage system of Ranchi presented a revised survey report on the drainage and sewerage system of the state capital in-front of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials on Monday.
Assistant Director of JICA South Asia Division Koji Honda presented a power point presentation explaining the changes suggested by the team in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by Meinhardt in the year 2006.
The team suggested using suppressed sewage line instead of standard clutch method for the fast and effective disposal of the residue and other waste particles which get collected and leads to overflowing in the drains. Under this method the pipeline of sewerage and drainage will be combined together for the easy flow of the sewerage which becomes difficult due to stagnation of the sludge in the drainage.
City’s 84 per cent population lies on septic tank while 12 per cent on sewage pit and 12 per cent on latrine pit. They suggest joining household sewage pipeline with the suppressed sewage line for quick and fast disposal of the house hold waste water and refusals.
JICA three member team last year in the month of October inked an agreement with the officials of civic body to conduct a survey on the city’s drainage and sewerage system and also to suggest necessary changes accordingly for the effective implementation of the Meinhardt prepared DPR for Rs 1,500 crores and 757 km long sewerage system.
JICA Additional Chief Development Specialist MP Singh said, “After minutely going through the available DPR and the team survey report we have come up with these few suggestions which on implementation will change the face of state capital.”
He further sharing information on its benefit added that according to available DPR the civic body has to shift as many as 113 families to some other place as their space will be occupied for laying sewerage and drainage pipelines but according to JICA proposal the situation will be vice a versa.
However, he also indicated that the team suggestion will increase the project cost but refused to mention the quantum of rise.Meanwhile, the team along with RMC officials met with Urban Development Secretary Ajay Kumar Singh to get his consent over the plan.
As per the DPR city 55 wards is divided into four zones. Survey of first zone from ward 1-8 is completed. RMC will float tender for the same if the plan get approved. Moreover, its funding will commence from next year in the month of March.
